How to create a MailChimp accout
Blogger’s newsletter service FeedBurner shut down in July 2021. There are many different newsletter building platforms — and at SIMPLYTHESTUDIO, we prefer and recommend using MailChimp. It is very easy to use even for people who do not have any experience with online marketing, it is free up to 500 contacts and 1000 sends per month, and if you want, you can upgrade to a paid plan for a larger audience.
Why do I need a newsletter?
With Blogger and social media followers, you may think you do not need a newsletter. But if you promote your new blog post in an Instagram story, at can easily get lost and forgotten. Additionally, a newsletter can be its own content platform — any you can share tips, your recommendations and monthly favourites, promote your new products, sale and offer coupons. A newsletter builds trust and it is more personal.
In MailChimp, you can create different types of newsletter — but for the start, we recommend setting up a Welcome email and automations for new blog posts. After this, you can play around and create your own emails.
Creating a MailChimp account
In this short tutorial, we will walk you through the process of creating your own account, managing the settings and setting up your audience. We also prepared additional tutorials for you — to help you easily create the Welcome email and connect the RSS feed of your blog to send new blog posts as emails.
Opening your account
First, if you have never created a MailChimp account, you will need to set up one with a Free plan.
- Go to MailChimp.com and in top right corner click on “Sign Up”.
- From the table with plans, click on the button “Sign Up Free”.
- Enter your email, pick a username and choose a password.
- Set up your account — enter your name and blog name. Add an address — this will be listed below each email you send as the anti-spam protection.
- If you previously used another mailing service, you can import your contacts. If not, select “No”.
- In the section “Customize” you can enter more information about your blog and the service you want to use it for.
Generating a widget for a template
If you are setting up the MailChimp newsletter and you want to connect it to your Blogger website and your new template, here is a tutorial how to generate a code you will need for the Installation guide.
- Go to your MailChimp dashboard.
- From the left menu, click on the button “CREATE”.
- On the new page, in the left menu sidebar, open the dropdown menu for “Signup form” and select “Embedded form”.
- Start by clicking on “Begin”.
- This opens “Embedded form builder” — you can skip customizing the widget, because each of our template features a newsletter widget that has already been customized. For this reason, you can click on the top right button “Continue”.
- Now the code is generated → locate the code that starts with
<form action="
. Copy the link as highlighted. - Now you can go back to the set-up guide and finish installing the template.
